Who here does NOT own a bible?
by unbeliever inwhen people find out i don't own a bible they can barely believe it.
my friend thinks i am the only person on the planet who does not own some type of bible.
i don't think that is the case.

ohhhh how radical we are throwing out Bibles ... - why not drop your old books off at a charity shop instead and put them to some use. I would think that most people unbeliever do not give a flying toss whether you own a Bible or not. Do you make a habit of taking Bible-owning surveys or something?

POST YOUR REALLY HARD JW QUESTIONS HERE SO I CAN CALL BRANCH
by tresbella ini plan to call up the branch office and pose as an 'interested one' and ask a bunch of difficult questions i am almost positive no jw witness will be able to ansewr.
1. if the supposed "light is getting brighter" then does that not mean that it is possile that many of the teachings that the society is teaching now may be false such as blood transfusions and the 1914 teaching?
2. since any witness who speaks against the wt and refutes one of their teachings and is therefore disfellowshipped for it, what if the very teaching that they spoke against turned out to be wrong later on?

How great the wind ..!
by El blanko ini sat yesterday with two friends having a drink on the banks of the river severn.
it was a grey overcast day, a slight breeze, but beautiful all the same.
one of my drinking buddies pointed out that the trees were moving, the grass was moving and the water was rippling and he observed how his mind was enriched by the simply gesture of nature in all it's animated glory.

Sure you weren't puffing a little something too.
Packed in the weed a while ago, it was slowing my mind and turning me into a chocolate slob

They became witnesses and quit smoking
by JH inoften, i heard elders say that some tried to quit smoking for years unsuccessfully, but when they associated with witnesses, they were able to quit smoking.
i can imagine how hard it is for a smoker to quit smoking.
what reasons would a person quit smoking faster if they associate with witnesses?

I always thought appreciation for the body to be the best motivation, not fear. But I do believe that FEAR is the key for many.
I quit after seeing a really horrible film of clogged up arteries, and also a video of a dying man without legs who was still smoking
Although having struggled on and off with the dreaded fags & cigars, I kicked it out of my life for good. Smoking really is a stupid, silly thing to do.
I have noticed how many ex-JWs when leaving the org' dabble with fags out of some kind of rebellion.

It then struck me how the visual concerto unfolding before us was being conducted by the wind.
Imagine a world without wind and then imagine how dull to the senses our surroundings would suddenly appear to be.
Invisible forms do indeed affect the visible.
I wonder who or what is conducting the mechanism of the human body? For there has to be an invisible reality pulling upon our strings, animating our form.

Placed an ad today
by seattleniceguy ina few days ago someone posted an article in the ny times, i believe, that talked about fundamentalist christianity and how its rhetoric about the gruesome destruction of non-believers (as depicted, for example, in the left behind series) was eerily similar to the attitudes in extremist islam.
since leaving the witnesses, i have been angered at their hateful rhetoric, and especially at how they masquerade as a benign, loving religion when they really treat non-believers with contempt when it comes to actual interactions.
it's passive-agressive, especially since they claim that it is not them, but god, who will do the destruction.

The Watchtower: A "hate-filled ideology"?
Ask JWs about the gruesome fate they see for 6 billion non-JWs close at hand!Just to be the devil's(?) advocate for a moment:
Mankind: A "hate-filled species"?
Ask mankind about the gruesome fate they see for future billions, because of rank material selfishness and warmongering.
We are all dying anyway and if it took all of us to die in order for this earth to prosper and regain it's health - so be it
Whilst understanding the need for your advert to help vent your own feelings of frustration, what do you think it will actually achieve? Would you like a JW to get his head kicked in by an unreasonable moron who reads your advert and get's all fired up?

Satan may have a good sense of fashion and time - it's weird that the 1950s UFO encounters looked like B-movie saucepans and then in recent times, slick images with beautiful light displays. Either Adobe PS has a lot to do with it or they are simply military craft (it's possible), visitors from other planets (not sure), naughty spirits mucking around (possible).
I have three friends who have witnessed UFOs, and know of another (a JW who refuses to talk about it).
When I was a serving JW I simply blanked the phenomenon and placed the blame on Satan's shoulders. To be honest, as far as I am concerned, it's as likely an explanation as any other. Without hard evidence who can say for sure?
The contemporary boom in interest can partially be explained by the crumbling spine of religion within society and our origin becoming uncertain once more. The idea of alien races is nothing particularly new, yet helps mankind to again grasp on to a mental security blanket.
Personally, I do not believe that another physical race of beings comes to the earth to inspect and observe our development. How boring and predictable is mankind.

"We do't believe in war."
by hubert ini've heard this time and again from my j.w.
sister-in-law and daughter.
yet, when i found this hymn book, "sing praises to jehovah", i was shocked to find war songs in it, such as ... "gaining victory over the world", page 3.. "god's warriors are advancing", page 39.. "proclaiming jehovah's day of vengeance", page 189.. "see jehovah's army"!

I would hope that Almighty God would be a God of war, otherwise he would not exactly be pragmatic concerning truth & justice. One definition of war is a sustained campaign against crime & poverty. In order to wage that war you need an army
The war you are quite rightly not supporting (I hope) is the ungodly war waged by mankind with their lust for material greed and power ..?
